If your house is being built and its fall and you aren't sure if you want to spend the money to have the outdoor areas completed or worked on, there are some things you want to consider. You may be eager for your home to be finished and for the yard to look complete, but you may be able to save some money if you grow the grass and get work done out of season. If you don't have a credit in your loan for sod or a patio, talk with the experts about the following things.

Landscaping

If you are building a new home  in the fall and you want to have fresh grass growing in the spring, you'll want to have the landscaping professionals put down some dormant fertilizer for the winter. The landscape experts can tell you what type of grass is best for the area where you live, what is the easiest to maintain, and when you can expect to have a lush and soft yard. If you don't want to waste the money on having turf brought in late in the fall, wait until winter.

If you want new trees, shrubs and other items, you may be able to get them at a nursery at a discounted price at the end of the season because the store doesn't want to store them.

Patio

A lot of people decide to do a patio in the spring because they want it ready for the summer, so getting the work done at the end of the season is a great way to save money. Get quotes from concrete companies or patio building companies if you want a wood patio, and see what you can save if you have the project done in late fall. It will be ready to go in the spring. You can get these discounts with a pool as well.

If you don't want to look at a barren yard but you don't have the cash to have a ton of sod brought in to create a yard, don't rush the process and wait until the spring to make your move. Don't wait to get a pool or patio until the spring when everyone is going to want work done on the outside of their home, and when rates are going to be high. Compare multiple companies to make sure you get the best rate.
